Principal for a Day 2007

On Thursday, February 15, the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation hosted its fifth annual "Principal for a Day" event. Thirty business and community leaders spent the morning at district schools, shadowing the principal, visiting classrooms, talking with teachers and students, touring schools and discussing challenges schools face. The "Principal for a Day" program was designed by the Foundation to create an awareness and understanding of the issues facing Putnam City schools and open the door to business-education partnerships.

Richard Trout Visits Mayfield

Richard is an author from Oklahoma City with four titles to his credit. He has a special rapport with middle school students who enjoy his books which are loaded with action centered on characters in their teens. Mr. Trout is rapidly developing a following of readers in an age group that knows what it wants, and will not compromise. His favorably reviewed books exude science, history and geography and hold a young reader's attention with fast-paced stories that give lessons based on actual events and facts. His titles include Cayman Gold: Lost Tresure of Devil's Grotto; Elephant Tears: Mask of the Elephant; Falcon of Abydos: Oracle of the Nile; and Czar of Alaska: The Cross of Charlemagne.

Author - Darleen Bailey Beard

The Putnam City Author Visit Program is second to none! Each year the Foundation teams up with the Putnam City Library Media Specialists to bring this outstanding program to each Putnam City School.

After the visit, Darleen received several letters from students she influenced. Below are some of the comments made. Please note that spelling and punctuation were not corrected.

Evan said, "when I got home, luckily my mom did a load of towels and I got the lint and gave it to my brother!"

Hayley said, "I just wanted to know that you inspierd me to be a writter. You also gave me corage to speak up."

Ann B. said, It was a plasher to meat another oather."

Orreonna had the intelligence to say, "Thank you for visiting our school You're real young!!"

And the favorite is from Malik, Bailey's "#1 fan" who said, "Mrs. Darleen, you're like a rainbow!"
